Bathroom remodeling
Does one of these sound familiar
The tenant moved out and the bathroom is dated
Updating the bathroom before re-renting is a common request. Working in an empty unit also shortens the schedule.
Mildew in the grout, odor from the drain
Both point to the same cause: the waterproofing and plumbing have reached the end of their life. Regrouting buys a few months; the lasting fix starts with demolition and new waterproofing.
The bathroom is small and I want more room
In a 35-45 sq ft bathroom, a 36 x 36 in shower in place of the tub, an in-wall toilet tank and a floating vanity open up the usable space noticeably.

What a full bathroom remodel covers
A full remodel has seven items. We also take partial jobs, such as replacing only the tile and fixtures; at the consultation we decide together which items you need.
- 1Demolition and removal (tile, fixtures, old vanity)
- 2New drain and supply plumbing
- 3Two-coat liquid waterproofing and flood test
- 4Wall and floor tile
- 5Ceiling work and recessed lighting
- 6Toilet, faucet and shower enclosure installation
- 7Custom vanity
How long a bathroom remodel takes
A full bathroom remodel of standard size takes 10-15 working days. Demolition takes the first 2 days and plumbing the next 2-3, followed by waterproofing with a 48-hour cure and test, 3-4 days of tile, and the remaining days for the ceiling, fixtures and vanity.

Why drain pipes get replaced in older homes
Many older homes still have cast iron or galvanized steel drain lines. When we open the walls, these pipes usually show a layer of scale and rust on the inside that has narrowed them. That is most often the cause of slow drains and sewer odor.
So before we close up with tile, we replace the drain with PVC and switch the supply lines to PEX. Covering old pipe only postpones the problem.
Bathroom remodeling questions
Is waterproofing in a bathroom really necessary?
Yes. Without it, water soaks into the subfloor and reaches the room below. We apply two coats of waterproofing and run a flood test before tile.
Can the drain be moved?
In most homes, yes. Moving a drain means cutting into the subfloor or joists and needs a plumbing permit; at the consultation we look at the framing and tell you what is possible.
Shower or tub?
In a bathroom under 55 sq ft, a walk-in shower uses the space better. If you want a tub, we build the floor and waterproofing details around it.
Can you tile over existing tile?
Technically yes, but we do not recommend it. Door thresholds and fixture heights end up off, and the life of the old adhesive is unknown. Demolition takes only 1-2 days.
Will the water be off for the whole remodel?
No. Water is shut off only for the 1-2 days of plumbing work. The rest of the time the kitchen and any other bathroom stay usable.
Can we buy the fixtures ourselves?
Yes. We give you a technical list covering the drain rough-in distance, faucet type and toilet model. The installation labor stays the same.
